Why I Chose A Class Essay - 1231 Words

As a Salem Freshman, I was required to take a â€Å"Signature† Salem class; a class that was â€Å"signature† to Salem and Salem alone. These classes were chosen based on a survey given to students before they get their schedules and all of them are rather â€Å"worldly†. At the time, I was unaware that the this â€Å"Sign† Classes were fully graded and fleshed out classes. I simply chose a class that sounded incredibly interesting without thinking about how well I would actually perform in that field. I chose a class that offered to challenge the way I think about others and how they think; a class that could help me understand people more by showing me how they come to believe things. Despite my initial confusion and eventual grade, I admit that I don’t regret taking the class because what I learned in that classroom was something I don’t believe I would have ever experienced otherwise. My Sign class was about belief, but it was a very scientific class, which was something I hadn’t expected. In truth, I was vastly unprepared to take the class because I had no experience in Psychology or writing extensive essays using only deeply researched data as my only sources. My first essay was the one essay that completely ruined any chance of me getting anything higher than a C as this class was essay-intensive and all student were graded mainly off of their six semester essays. Analysis of Shakespeares various techniques for creating different moods and atmospheres to reveal the characters Essay Example For Students

Analysis of Shakespeares various techniques for creating different moods and atmospheres to reveal the characters Essay Shakespeare uses various techniques to create different moods and atmospheres and to reveal the characters. He uses comparisons in characters, the use of language and the use of tension. It is one of the most important scenes as it is where Romeo and Juliet first meet and where we learn the most about main characters. Being an important scene, Shakespeare has made it very tense and entertaining. The scene includes a lot of main key characters and we learn of the differences between the two families. The audience are already looking forward to this scene, as we want to find out about and see Rosaline! We are expecting fun as it is a party and want to know what happens with Juliet and Paris; will she marry marry him when she is of an older and more mature age? Before this scene we found information about various main characters. The audience found out that Romeo was in love with Rosaline at the very beginning and he was love sick and distraught with not seeing her. Romeo had had a dream the night before about a bad thing happening at the Capulets party. Being Romeo he believed his own thoughts and was nervous about going. We also found out that Juliet, only 13 years of age, was the only daughter of the Capulets. She has her own nurse to look after her as she is not very mature and relies on other people. Juliet is very distant from the rest of her family and does not get on with them the most majority of the time; she is a lonely child. Capulet wanted Juliet to marry Paris, a rich older man but only when Juliet was older. Capulet is a strong character, he tries to keep the peace between his family and the Montagues, but if the Montagues start a fight first then he will want to carry it on, as he doesnt want to be seen as the loser. Finally Tybalt, he is the nephew to Lady Capulet and despises the Montagues and tries his hardest to start fights with them and will never hear a bad word spoken about him. Immediately before this scene, the atmosphere is very gloomy as Romeo had a dream about a bad thing happening at Capulets party, this also gets us interested, as we want to find out if he is right and what will happen. At the opening of scene 5 Capulets servants prepare for his party. The atmosphere is very busy, rushed and fast moving. All of the servants are rushing around preparing for the party. They all talk to each other in short sentences; You are lookd for, and calld for, askd forà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¦ This key line shows the short, snappy words the servants used. For is repeatedly used as they are rushed and just use it as a joining word to get their sentence across before rushing off to prepare more things for the party once more. The apostrophes are repeated in all three words as it shows they are rushed even in their speech; they have to shorten words to say what they wanted quicker; they cant finish sentences and even words! They do not have the time to stand and chat especially under the watchful eye of Capulet; they have too much to do for everything to be ready for when the party begins. Capulet then welcomes guests into the party and tries to get them to dance. The atmosphere is very humorous, as people are all in fancy dress; it is very vibrant, lively and very cheerful as people are having fun. Welcome Gentlemen, Ladies that have their toes unplagued with cornsà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¦ Capulet repeats the word Welcome, this tells us that he is very pleased that everyone has come and he may have had too much to drink and forgets that he has already said it! .udefdc0bd31bfefd21666a748211e1c14 , .udefdc0bd31bfefd21666a748211e1c14 .postImageUrl , .udefdc0bd31bfefd21666a748211e1c14 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .udefdc0bd31bfefd21666a748211e1c14 , .udefdc0bd31bfefd21666a748211e1c14:hover , .udefdc0bd31bfefd21666a748211e1c14:visited , .udefdc0bd31bfefd21666a748211e1c14:active { border:0!important; } .udefdc0bd31bfefd21666a748211e1c14 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .udefdc0bd31bfefd21666a748211e1c14 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .udefdc0bd31bfefd21666a748211e1c14:active , .udefdc0bd31bfefd21666a748211e1c14:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .udefdc0bd31bfefd21666a748211e1c14 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .udefdc0bd31bfefd21666a748211e1c14 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .udefdc0bd31bfefd21666a748211e1c14 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .udefdc0bd31bfefd21666a748211e1c14 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .udefdc0bd31bfefd21666a748211e1c14:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .udefdc0bd31bfefd21666a748211e1c14 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .udefdc0bd31bfefd21666a748211e1c14 .udefdc0bd31bfefd21666a748211e1c14-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .udefdc0bd31bfefd21666a748211e1c14:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Philip Larkin analysis EssayCapulet is eager to get the party off to a flying start and he teases all the ladies by telling they are welcome to attend his party if they have nice feet! Capulet adds a jolly atmosphere to the party. Once the party had got going, Romeo arrived and glimpses Juliet for the first time; the atmosphere was very romantic and slow. What Ladys that which doth enrich the handà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¦ Romeo compares Juliet to jewels, à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¦As a rich jewel in an Ethiops ear-à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¦which shows he thinks very highly of her, he uses What Ladys that which doth enrich the handà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¦in describing her as special. He immediately falls in love with her and we see a different side to Romeo, his mood and feelings go from one extreme to the other, as he was totally in love with Rosaline but with one sight of Juliet he is head over heals in love with her, which is very typical of Romeo. The effect on the audience is that we are privileged to share such an intimate moment between Romeo and Juliet. After Romeo and Juliet met, Tybalt overhears Romeo talking about Juliet and was angry that a Montague had come to the Capulets own party. An argument started between him and Capulet, Tybalt wanted to fight Romeo outside and told one of the servants to go and get his sword but Capulet stopped him and didnt want any fight at his party and told him to leave it. The atmosphere was very tense and violent; Tybalt was very aggressive towards Capulet and anyone who helped try and stop him from fighting. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¦Fetch me my rapier, boyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¦ This suggests he has no respect for his servants and people around him; he speaks as he is higher up than everyone else and uses the word boy to show his power over them. s impulsively violent; he acts first and thinks later, as he tries his hardest to start fights between him and the Montagues. It tells us he really wanted to fight Romeo. Capulet scolds Tybalt and he leaves the party sowing revenge. Tybalt was very angry that Romeo turned up, He shall be enduredà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¦ Capulet is asserting his authority, as he wouldnt let him do anything about it. Capulet is being very naÃÆ' ¯ve, as he thinks he has solved the problem. The atmosphere went from being very tense and un-settled to the audience finally having a breath of relief as the tense atmosphere is over. After Tybalt had left, Romeo and Juliet meet for the first time and end up kissing. The atmosphere is very romantic, as if it is slow motion because the camera focuses and continually flicks between Romeo and Juliet. If I profane with my unworthiest hand This holy shrine,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¦ Romeo is very eager to impress, he is pleased that he had got to be with Juliet after wanting to all night. Juliet responds in the same way, she is very flattered and equally eager to impress. Whilst Romeo and Juliet were kissing Juliets nurse interrupted them, the atmosphere is very rushed and happens very rapidly. Unfortunately, Romeo finds out that Juliet is a Capulet and is disappointed, as he knows he will never be able to be with her with people knowing because of their family differences, à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¦My life is my foes debt. Romeo does not understand how Juliet could be a Capulet, he was very upset at first, and he was in the hands of his enemy. The audience get anxious because of Romeo finding out she is his foe and the atmosphere gets very apprehensive. The audience feel depressed that Romeo and Juliet cannot be together with their family despising each other even though they know there could be love between them. .u6571c0e716bcbeb76e2dc8c98d3f6a76 , .u6571c0e716bcbeb76e2dc8c98d3f6a76 .postImageUrl , .u6571c0e716bcbeb76e2dc8c98d3f6a76 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u6571c0e716bcbeb76e2dc8c98d3f6a76 , .u6571c0e716bcbeb76e2dc8c98d3f6a76:hover , .u6571c0e716bcbeb76e2dc8c98d3f6a76:visited , .u6571c0e716bcbeb76e2dc8c98d3f6a76:active { border:0!important; } .u6571c0e716bcbeb76e2dc8c98d3f6a76 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u6571c0e716bcbeb76e2dc8c98d3f6a76 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u6571c0e716bcbeb76e2dc8c98d3f6a76:active , .u6571c0e716bcbeb76e2dc8c98d3f6a76:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u6571c0e716bcbeb76e2dc8c98d3f6a76 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u6571c0e716bcbeb76e2dc8c98d3f6a76 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u6571c0e716bcbeb76e2dc8c98d3f6a76 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u6571c0e716bcbeb76e2dc8c98d3f6a76 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u6571c0e716bcbeb76e2dc8c98d3f6a76:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u6571c0e716bcbeb76e2dc8c98d3f6a76 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u6571c0e716bcbeb76e2dc8c98d3f6a76 .u6571c0e716bcbeb76e2dc8c98d3f6a76-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u6571c0e716bcbeb76e2dc8c98d3f6a76:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Essay On Shakespeare SonnetsFinally after Romeo finds out Juliet is a Capulet; vice versa for Juliet; she finds out Romeo is a Montague. The atmosphere is very playful and menacing, as Romeo and Juliet are still hopeful for being with one another from the bad news, as they know they want to be together and do not care about the consequences of being together. They were both very shocked and heartbroken about being enemies but they are not as naÃÆ' ¯ve as their family and can see through differences and see love comparisons. Juliet refers to graves, which is a sign of bad things about to happen; we could interoperate as death! My grave is like to be my wedding bed. Julie t may be thinking ahead, if she married Romeo her family would disown her and she may as well be dead to them. She also may be thinking if she married Paris, she would be very unhappy. She doesnt want to marry him but she wants to make Capulet and her family happy. She knows she would have a bad life and would think of it as her deathbed! In Act 1 scene 5, he brings across the characteristics and their personalities and uses a lot of tension. Tybalt for example, when the atmosphere got tense because of Romeo being at the party, Tybalt lost his cool and started getting angry, which gives the audience his real personality. Shakespeare creates different moods and reveals different characters because of Act 1 scene 5 is such an important scene. We know about some of the characters personalities but he shows us more, getting the audience looking forward to the scene from the tense build-up from the scene before. He uses the two families to bring across the differences and personalities; this is how he creates different moods; mostly being tense. He reveals different aspects of the main characters.

The Struggles of Independent Artists free essay sample

Anathema The music Industry Is one of the biggest Industries In the world today. With millions of people listening to some of the best singers; music has become a need for people today. There are many genres of music with floods of artists filling them. You have Justine Bibber who leads all singers in the pop category, in fan support. There is also country music, which is led by Taylor Swift. Rap is another big genre, which has many great rappers. Some include Ill Wayne and Mine. These artists make it hard for independent artists to showcase their talent.Loads of upcoming and current artists make It hard for Independent artists to have a successful career. Independent artists have a lot of competition to go through to have a successful career. They need talent in music and they need an interest in the music industry. They need to work hard and overcome the obstacles they face. Independent artists today have many obstacles in getting their music produced and heard; these include financial difficulties, difficulty in getting their music on the radio, and the censorship and banning of their music. The biggest obstacle In an Independent artists career Is developing It. This Is cause If they do not have the necessary amount of money needed, they will have no music to sell. Most Independent artists do not spend their money wisely, which results in failure. They either, blow money on unnecessary services, waste time in getting their music published, or simply do not have the amount of money needed to create their music. Ribs Finny wrote about this topic. He talks about what artists do with their money and he offers Ideas for the artists to improve their financial capableness. Here Is what he wrote. Many artists are under-funded and so they cant purchase the tools they need or ire the help they need. Sometimes this is a result of lack of funds to begin with. Sometimes it is because the available funds are not spent wisely. Successful artists know that they need to constantly invest and reinvest in their act. They establish a budget and stick with it. They raise capital if it is necessary, whether it comes from Investors, crowd sourcing, a loan or some sort of enterprising venture. If they are not good at managing their money, they hire someone who Is. They do not let money, or the lack of it stop them. Finny, 15 Reasons Why Some Indies Artists Fail And Others Succeed). Producing music is extremely expensive also. The more money artists put in their promotion, the more people will listen to their music. Artists need to decide on which path to take. They can either put loads of money in their song, or they can work hard and do many social interactions with future listeners. If they plan on selling an album, It can cost them plenty of money. Bar Scott wrote about how much this can cost. Scott says says she spent up to $ASK in bringing her album to the store. Here is what she went through to get her album out.To date, I have spent about $ask on Parachute. That means that I have to sell 5400 units at an average of $10 per CD to break even. Its worth noting here that I have not gotten paid at all for my part of this project. That will happen when I pay put on my credit card to make up the difference. (Scott, How Much Does it Cost to Make a CD in 2006? ). Although this was published in 2006, the cost to produce an album today, most likely, exceeds the amount Scott talks about. Artists can get an idea of how much it takes to make a album from her article. $ASK is extremely difficult to get. Many artists will also feel uncomfortable to use this money, because here is a risk involved. Artists cannot always make their money back. They can get a loss, and lose some of the money they put in. If an artist wants to become successful they would have to take the risk, even if they have some doubts. Artists will have to get their music on the radio to sell their copies, which is an whole other obstacle of its own. Artists also have a difficulty in getting their music played by their local radio stations. Most radio stations play the music that is much more popular. This leaves independent artists in the dust. This is because of the numerous famous artists, rood the radio stations, leaving no room for the independent artists. Marie Michaels writes in an article that you have to have amazing music Just to compete with the major artists. She states reasons why. She says Indies typically have no issues remembering they have to compete against established artists for airplay. If they forget, there will always be someone tat radio station who will remind them. Established artists have the backing of major labels, so their music can be so-so and still get airplay, while an Indiess good music will be tossed to the reject pile. For an Indies to win some much coveted airtime, their music has to outstanding, truly special, not Just good. (Michaels, Independent Artists: How to Get Radio Airplay). This shows that independent artists have to put all their effort in, even to get consideration, in being on the radio. Another reason why artists cant get radio airtime is because of Clear Channel. They are the multi-million dollar company that owns the most radio stations. In the Clear Channels Statistic article on Scatterbrain it tells how many stations Clear Channel owns.It says Clear Channel is he largest radio station group owner in the United States, both by number of stations and by revenue. The 850 stations reach more than 110 million listeners every week. If artists get rejected by one radio station owned by Clear Channel, they will probably get rejected by all of Clear Channels other radio stations. So for artists to be successful they need to be accepted by Clear Channel. These radio stations get a load of listeners. If artists are lucky enough to get some time, people who listen to the song and like it, will impulse buy it.So the more radio time they get, the higher more ales they get for their album. Even if they get radio airtime, some artists music might get censored. Some songs tend to get banned and censored. This may be because of the views shown in the song or the fact that the song contains loads of violence in it. Most of the music that was banned from the public were songs to do with politics. For example many songs were banned by Clear Channel after 9/1 1, because A senior executive at giant radio conglomerate Clear Channel Communications distributed a memo to all 1300 Clear Channel stations. This memo included a list of 150 songs with inappropriate lyrics. (Feldman Music Thats Been Banned). Some of the songs that were banned include What a Wonderful World, R. E. Ms Its the End of the World as We because their views may not be allowed, o be expressed, because of the restrictions of their music. Another reason why songs may get banned is because of violence. They can get banned because of the use of sex, drugs, or profanity. Most songs are even censored. This hurts the artist, because their song may not express its message with the song being censored.Threshold Trident wrote about why Hip-Hop music would not be censored. Hip Hop music has always been controversial. This is often as a result of the sensual beats and explicit lyrics, Hip Hop music claims to be the soul of the street. It signifies how real individuals in the streets speak, walk, behave and live. Hip Hop music is all concerning reality. Real lyrics! Its not regarding social welfare although it will be but to ask rapper to tone down his reality because it goes against the grain of politically correct society isnt the means to get his attention. This article is regarding freedom of expression in Hip Hop music.Trident Hip Hop Music Should Not Be Censored). He shares that he thinks rappers should be free to express their feeling. Artists should be able to express their music freely, without other people ruining their message. The obstacle their artists as to face, is the fact they have to change their song to something more appropriate, without ruing the message. Independent artists will have to go through any type of obstacles to be successful; these include money problems, radio airtime, and the restrictions of their music. Artists will have to control their money wisely and take a risk in using it.They would also have to push hard for radio airtime. They should also try and change the restrictions of their music or not let it change the meaning of their music. In any case, the arguments in this essay, can go for anyone doing anything. This is because; the essay states what obstacles the artists have to go through. This can be applied to other people in other industries. It could persuade them to use money wisely, fight for what is right, and to be more completive in what you are doing. People will always face obstacles when trying to become successful.
